Special Lecture by Dr. George Friedman
The Next 50 Years

2020.09.18 15:00 - 16:40

On September 19, 2020, the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies invited Dr. George Friedman, Founder and Chairman of Geopolitical Futures, to present a special lecture titled ‘The Next 50 Years. In this lecture, Dr. Friedman shared his view on how global order and geopolitical dynamics will unfold in the next 50 years. According to his lecture, the world has been disrupted by COVID-19 but thus far the international order remains intact. However, the impact of COVID-19 will become more significant if no vaccine is available by the end of the year. The first six months of 2020 have been bearable, but it is the next six months that will be critical. While major exporters like China or Germany will be most affected, major importers like the United States will be somewhat less exposed. Dr. Friedman emphasized that we need to focus on the bankruptcy rates in various countries as a forerunner of depression. He also expected the US to continue to pressure China by both limiting access to Chinese markets and diversifying the supply chain, striking at the heart of China’s economy.
