Conventional semiconductor technology is said to have reached its height. Industry and academia are joining forces to break new ground in design, manufacturing, and even the way supply chains are managed. To better understand the rapidly changing landscape of the industry, the Chey Institute invited scholars who represent a wide spectrum of semiconductor expertise to share their experiences and insights on April 7, 2023. The participants— Seok Mingoo (Professor, Columbia University), Shin Changhwan (Professor, Korea University), Kwon Seokjoon (Professor, Sungkyunkwan University), and Jeon Dongsuk (Professor, Seoul National University)—discussed examples of next-generation chip technology, the implications of the geopolitical tensions surrounding chip hegemony, and strategies for Korea amid the ongoing restructuring of the global chip supply chain.
