The Chey Institute for Advanced Studies hosted a conference on November 19, 2025, under the theme “Korea–U.S. Nuclear Partnership,” to examine pathways for deepening bilateral cooperation in the nuclear domain. The conference was convened in the context of the Joint Fact Sheet issued by the Republic of Korea and the United States on November 13, 2025, which underscored the expansion of cooperation in both civil and naval nuclear power.

Against this backdrop, the conference brought together leading experts to assess strategic priorities and identify practical approaches to advancing the Korea–U.S. alliance through nuclear cooperation. Discussions focused on key areas including the nuclear fuel cycle, conventional nuclear reactors, small modular reactors (SMRs), and nuclear-powered submarines.

Participants included Sonn Yanghoon (Professor, Incheon National University), Hwang Yongsoo (Professor, KINGS), Kim Moohwan (Executive Vice President, SK Innovation), Lee Geunwook (Professor, Sogang University), and Yu Jihoon (Research Fellow, Korea Institute for Defense Analyses), who offered perspectives spanning academia, industry, and defense policy.
