In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Korea-U.S. alliance, the Chey Institute invited Philip S. Goldberg (U.S. Ambassador to Korea) on September 5, 2023, for an in-depth discussion on the significance of the U.S.-Korea-Japan trilateral summit at Camp David and the future of the Korea-U.S. alliance’s security strategy. In his special lecture, Ambassador Goldberg opined that the possibility of strengthened cooperation among Russia, China, and North Korea is unlikely, while the U.S.-Korea-Japan trilateral partnership, institutionalized through the Camp David Summit, will continue to strengthen.

During a discussion with Ahn Ho-young (former Korean Ambassador to the U.S.), and Shin Bong-kil (President, Korean Council on Foreign Relations), Ambassador Goldberg also emphasized that strong bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress is crucial for ensuring the sustainability and progress of trilateral cooperation.
