Shanghai Forum

Since 2005, the Shanghai Forum, co-hosted annually with Fudan University, has served as a global platform for academic discourse, focusing on critical issues related to the economy, finance, energy, and the environment in Asia and beyond, under the overarching theme of "Economic Globalization and Asia's Choice."

At the most recent forum, keynote speakers included James Steinberg, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State and current Dean of Johns Hopkins SAIS; Cui Tiankai, former Chinese Ambassador to the United States; Takehiko Nakao, former President of the Asian Development Bank and current Chairman of Mizuho; and Pascal Lamy, former Director-General of the WTO.

The Chey Institute for Advanced Studies, in collaboration with Fudan University, successfully co-hosted the 19th Shanghai Forum under the theme "Age of Innovation: Technology, Development and Governance.”


This year’s forum carried special significance, commemorating both the 20th anniversary of the Shanghai Forum and the 120th anniversary of Fudan 

University. In honor of these milestones, the 2025 Forum reaffirmed its commitment to advancing global dialogue, with a renewed focus on expanding 

international cooperation and academic exchange.
