Scientific Innovation
Grand Quests
The Grand Quest is a strategic initiative jointly organized by the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies and the Seoul National University Institute for Future Strategy to explore frontier questions in science and technology. The program aims to identify transformative questions—those that have the potential to reshape existing paradigms and redefine the blueprint for our collective future. Launched in 2025, the Grand Quest convened 21 of Korea’s leading experts from diverse scientific disciplines to take on the role of question-setters rather than problem-solvers, and to shift from passive followers to proactive pioneers. Through rigorous debate and interdisciplinary collaboration, the participants outlined ten visionary Grand Quests that serve as a roadmap for the future of science, technology, and industry in Korea. With members of the Science and Technology Innovation Council at the core, a diverse group of academic and industry experts participated as presenters and discussants. By presenting new frameworks and integrated approaches to complex challenges, the Grand Quest aims to strengthen Korea’s role in the global innovation ecosystem.
