CSIS-CHEY Special Conference
Beijing Forum, co-hosted with Peking University since 2004, is an annual academic festival under the overarching theme of "The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All". The Beijing Forum strives to strengthen mutual respect and cooperation in the region and beyond by exploring regional values and identifying potential threats to Asian civilizations through academic exchange.
Nobel laureates such as Robert A. Mundell, Douglass C. North, and Amartya Kumar Sen have participated in the forum to share ideas and discoveries. Leading politicians including former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Vice-Chairman Zhu Tienong of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China have also contributed to discussions on current global issues.
On December 5, 2020, Peking University, Beijing Municipal Education Commission, and the Chey Institute collaborated to host the 17th Beijing Forum. Under the theme, <The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All-Globalization under the Impact of the Pandemic: New Challenges and Opportunities>, the forum invited international scholars to discuss global developments in the post-pandemic era. Media outlets including People’s Daily, china.com.cn, Beijing Daily and The Paper livestreamed the forum. From June to December, the 2020 Beijing Forum held seven webinars titled "The Chinese History Studies in Digital Context", "Ecological Civilization and High-Quality Urbanization", "Medicine, Humanity and Media: Healthy China & Health Communication", "International Public Policies in a Turbulent World", "COVID-19 Shock to Global Health and Development", "Energy Transition Driven by Technology & the 14th Five-Year-Plan Outlook" and "Uniformity of Ununiformity: A New Vision of Caring for Society and Self."
