Uncertainties and unpredictability are mushrooming in Northeast Asia. China is preparing for the 19th Party Congress, which is expected to be followed by a milestone political reshuffle; President Trump is still struggling with an unfavorable political environment both domestically and internationally; and ROK is in the unprecedented transitional period. Amid such uncertainties and challenges facing the three countries, the burgeoning nuclear threat posed by North Korea has become an alarming international security threat or a dangerous tail wagging the dog. Against this back , the international community should eradicate any sense of impunity for DPRK and prevent the regime from furthering its intension to become a nuclear weapons state. At this critical juncture, this Track II level session will elaborate on how the three countries can cope with North Korean nuclear issue and consolidate trilateral coordination toward achieving regional stability and denuclearization in parallel.
