We live in an age of uncertainty. Numerous factors— from pandemics to tech competition and geopolitical conflicts—drastically influence our daily lives and mold our belief systems, not to mention steer the course of national strategies. Advances in science and technology also fuel change and at times, lead to new crises. In today’s world, it is increasingly important for scientists and technologists to communicate—not only with one another, but also with experts from non-scientific fields and, most importantly, with the public. What motivates scientists and technologists to pursue their goals? Should they explain their motivation to others? How is scientific goal-setting relevant to the greater good of society? On October 27, 2023, three scientists—Hong Sungwook (Professor, Seoul National University), Park Jiwoong (Professor, University of Chicago), and Chung Kwanghun (Professor, MIT) shared their personal and professional experiences with scientific storytelling and communication.
