[CLS 37] President CHU Yunhan (the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange)
The Global Significance of China's Rise

2019.06.03 16:00 - 18:00

The ‘Rise of China’ is a definitive historical event of the 21st century. Its significance is similar to the 19th century French and Industrial revolutions or the 20th century Bolshevik revolution and the ‘Rise of the US’ , each of which changed and defined world order.

As a Taiwanese scholar, Prof. CHU Yunhan provides his personal perspective on the implications and importance of China’s rise to the international community, based on historical contemplation.

According to Prof. CHU, the Rise of China will: accelerate the speed of hyper-globalization, change the post-WW2 liberal international order and encroach the base of US supremacy and, accelerate the rise of non-Western societies, often referred to as the Global South.

Prof. CHU emphasizes that despite the concerns of a catastrophic clash between the US and China, China will become a strong advocate of the existing multilateral order, and we must pay attention to the agenda’s that China brings forward.
